If you are new to mac and previously worked on Windows and Linux, I am sure it will be a nightmare for you to do cut and paste. I was also struggling for the same, finally got the below solution and it is not a hack, this is the actual functionality that is provided by mac.

Copy a file: Cmd + c (press command key with key c)
Move: Cmd+option+v (press command key with option and key v)

So, there is a simple difference between copy paste and cut paste, if you want to create a copy of file use Cmd+v and if you want to move the file use Cmd+option+v

Feel free to comment in case it is not clear to you or the above solution is not working for you.
